Tossing and turning a few nights ago because I was so anxious about a number of things, the Spirit calmed my restless and troubled spirit through Psalm 4:8 and 100:6:
In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations. (emphasis added)
I believe it’s “his faithfulness” part that really did it for me. Yes, to the Lord’s “safety” and “love,” but “his faithfulness” binds them altogether, giving that soothing effect. It’s that “Balm of Gilead” the songwriter had in mind–I’m sure.

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. (Emphasis added)
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
“Great is your faithfulness.” This is what every restless and troubled soul needs to hear. I leave you with the song “Faithful” from the anointed singer/songwriter Chris Tomlin:
