Roger E Olson on the New Pope

When the Baptist Press quoted Al Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, reminding evangelicals about the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century and what was really at stake–some folks got bent out of shape.  Well, here is another voice of dissent, from another leading evangelical biblical theologian and scholar, Roger E. Olson, Professor of Theology at George W. Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University.

I’m vicariously excited for my Catholic brothers and sisters. But for myself, no, I’m not excited. The bishop of Rome does not represent me in any way. (I know Protestants, including Baptists, who look to the bishop of Rome as some kind of universal Christian cheerleader and spokesman. I don’t share their view.)  full post here

In other words, it’s still okay to disagree.  At any rate, I must admit that Olson’s approach is somewhat milder than Mohler–but a dissent nonetheless.
