J.C. Ryle on Abundance of Bibles

bibles11“There is more Bible buying, Bible selling, Bible printing and Bible distributing than ever before in our nation. We see Bibles in every bookstore – Bibles of every size, price and style. There are Bibles in almost every house in the land. But all this time I fear we are in danger of forgetting that to HAVE the Bible is one thing, and to READ it quite another.” –J.C. Ryle

  1. R. Mansfield says:

How long ago did he write that, I wonder? He would be shocked (or maybe not) at the “business” of Bible printing and selling today.

    • TC says:

Rick, Ryle lived from 1816 to 1900 – just over a 100 yrs ago. As they say, he is probably rolling over in his grave.

  2. Before David Wilkerson went to be with the Lord, he preached a message on hearing the Word of God. Wilkerson pointed to Amos 8:11 and he said that our problem in the United States is not a lack of Bibles but of hearing the Bible preached. We have Bibles but we don’t hear from God because the church is too afraid to declare what God has said from His holy Word.
