Prayer for Our Brothers and Sisters in Egypt

When I read that a Coptic priest was killed and Christians are being targeted with violence in Egypt, what the Apostle Peter says to Christ followers–who were experiencing persecution because of their faith–came to mind,

Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.  And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you.  (1 Peter 5:9-10 NRSV)

The only difference being that we are not “undergoing the same kinds of suffering” as our  brothers and sisters in Egypt.  This, however, does not mean that we don’t faithfully and earnestly pray for these persecuted fellow Christ followers, whose very lives are at stake.  In fact, the very nature of what has been happening calls for intensified prayers.
