John Piper talks John MacArthur and Strange Fire Conference

Interestingly, John Piper is equally convinced about his position as John MacArthur is equally convinced about his opposing position.  In fact, both men are equally exegetically convinced about their respective position:

  1. While I disagree with Piper on many of his Calvinistic foundations. I love this man who is able to stand his ground without being disagreeable. His book on hedonistic joy is one of my favorites and I simply love his engaging and honest manner as to how he shares his heart in this pod cast.

Yes, he has this irenic nature toward the matter. It should be commended for what it is.

      • Jon Hughes says:

        Amen.

John Piper is godly and responsible when disagreeing with others whose ministries he respects and recommends. I recall also his gracious response to N.T. Wright on the issue of justification. Meanwhile, MacArthur’s right-hand man, Phil Johnson, pronounced Wright under the curse of Galatians 1:8.

There’s a big difference between the two approaches. Perhaps the next Shepherd’s Conference could be on the subject of taking an irenic approach toward those with whom you disagree. John Piper could be the keynote speaker. I dare say the good folk that attend could benefit greatly from such an emphasis, although it might come across as a bit STRANGE initially to a few of them. 🙂

  2. TC says:

Jon, yes, it would be interesting to see Piper at the Shepherds’ Conference. I would love to see it. Still time, so let’s not think it STRANGE. 😉
