    Very significant admission from Russell.

    • TC Robinson says:

Profoundly so, esp. coming from an atheist.

      • Jon Hughes says:

It’s a great quote to have to hand. It has tremendous apologetic value. If Russell is correct in his reasoning (and we believe he is) it’s a powerful argument for the necessity of God. Very few people will be able to consistently reject God on Russell’s terms. I imagine a fair few atheists would disagree with his reasoning, but he’s surely right. After all, God has set eternity in our hearts. Where does that yearning come from if life’s purpose is ultimately meaningless?

  2. TC Robinson says:

    Jon,
Yes, tremendous apologetic value, which means Russell, if he believed this statement, also had to conclude that he too was leading a meaningless life.
